Sleep with the stars and wake up in the mountains - a hikers dream.

Located approximately 2-1/2 hours North East of Seattle you will find the enchanting Hidden Lake, or will you? Upon entering the North Cascades National Park, be prepared to experience breathtaking views, gorgeous wild flowers paired with the company of wildlife. After passing through the small town of Marblemount, the drive to the trailhead is an enchanting journey through the woods, then along a cliff side and before you know it you have arrived! With room for about 20 cars, it's imperative that you get here early, especially if you are planning on spending the night. Let the adventure officially begin! At 3,600 feet, your trek begins through a beautiful forest where you will make your way through the pines. The trail is visible and easy to follow. As you approach a valley, you will cross a few small creeks, heading North. Continue to make your way up the switchbacks trying not to be too distracted by the views of the valley and Mount Baker in the near distance. This 8 mile round trip hike will test your strength by expanding your playground for new challenges. As you gain elevation you will then traverse West and will enter a terrain filled with mostly rocks. With the views getting better with every step, the adrenaline sets in that you are almost there. As the trail begins to disappear, it is up to you to carve your own path. Often times others will leave rock formations to help guide you in the right direction; however as long as you keep going up, you will be fine. And that's when you see it. The lookout. Your destination awaits. A little intimidating at first glance, but trust me, you can make it. In about a quarter mile you will come to a ridge where you are introduced to the gorgeous deep blue Hidden Lake. Pause for a moment and enjoy a little break before the final push. Head to the right for the less than formal path to the top. There is a small boot path for a few switchbacks, but will quickly turn to a rock scramble to the summit. With 360 degree views from the lookout, there is no better place to call home for the night. Unlike most 5 star abodes, this lookout is lacking a 1-800 number, a front desk and valet parking. Reservations here are first come first serve. It is common to lay your sleeping bag on the bed, claiming your presence. Enjoy the rest of your day by hiking the ridge, scrambling down to go fishing at the lake or simply chill and enjoy the views. Soon the sun will be setting and the feelings of accomplishment and complete serenity will leave you with nothing but gratitude. Knowing that same sun will be your alarm clock in the morning is a surreal experience and hands down the best way to start your morning. Remember to pack out what you packed in and have a safe hike back down from your 6,900 foot high home away from home.
