Description

An abandoned tepee, visited and marked by many visitors. You never know what you'll find on your visit!

We originally visited this tepee almost by mistake, when we realized that the hike we wanted to go on was actually inaccessible because of snow. However, we redeemed our visit to the area by hiking up a short way to find the tepee on a hill that can be seen from the road below.

The starting point is right at the entrance to Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. If the road is closed to Shenandoah, you can park right next to the entrance and walk in, or if it's open you can park at the little abandoned store (and the amazing kettle corn stand!) down the hill from the gate. Hike north towards Shenandoah National Park, and after crossing the bridge, you will hike straight up through the woods on your right. No path, just head East and you will pretty much run into it after about ten minutes.

We loved exploring the area, finding an old abandoned tent, sitting on the edge of the hill for some outstanding views, and seeing who else had been to the tepee before us. Lots of people have left little trinkets and notes behind.

Short and sweet, but it's a cool adventure!
