Go Fly Fishing on Buffalo Creek

Lexington, Virginia

Description

Added by Jess Fischer

Buffalo Creek is beautiful, winding, and full of brook and rainbow trout. You can either choose to fish the special regulation area or try your luck on other parts of the river. Either way, with the rolling hills and surrounding mountains you'll be sure to fall in love with this river wherever you decide to fish.

Starting from the "starting point" highlighted on this adventure you can either drive up or down the road.

Where you park to get into the river is entirely up to you. There are well beaten parking spots beside the road and you can decide for yourself where you want to park and wade in. The river overall is shallow, maybe 1-3 feet deep but there are a lot of pockets with really deep pools just perfect for trout. Most reports have people pulling rainbow, brook and brown trout from the river and occasionally pulling some 16+ inch fish. Be careful when fishing this river- keep an eye peeled for No Trespassing signs and obey them when you come across them. This river is great to fish but if you're on private property they'll call the police without warning you first.

There is also a special regulation area and to read more about it & about what permits you'll need go here: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/f...
