Distance: 5.5 MilesElevation Gain: 1,350 ft*Sweeping Views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding Washington National Forest both east and west

From the trailhead parking area, follow the Henry Lanum Memorial Trail branching to the right. This is a loop and you will return down from the left branch. Follow the trail along an old forest service road for just over a mile before the blue blazed trail branches to the right. Follow the steeper section of the trail for another mile before coming to the Mount Pleasant Summit Trail junction. Follow the summit trail to the summit, being sure to follow the fresh blue blazes as the old summit trail and water source spur make it easy to get off track. Shortly you will arrive at the saddle between the east and west summits. Each offers sweeping views of the mountains and valleys from rock outcrops. Explore both to see what each has to offer. On the spur trails for the respective summits there are several excellent campsites one might utilize for an overnight. For the Return trip, follow the summit trails down to the Henry Lanum Memorial trail and hang right to loop back to the parking area. For other camping areas at the trailhead, head back down the FS road on which you came in to the area where the AT crosses the road. Camping is a short hike away in the Meadow visible from the road.
