Incredible views of Zion's Canyon with great photo opportunities. Short and easy hike with a great reward.

The trailhead is located east out of the 1.1 mile long tunnel off highway 9. Parking is available immediately to the right after exiting the tunnel and the trail then begins with these charming steps, carved into sandstone, that climb above the Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel. The trail is broad and easy to follow, but could get muddy and rocky at certain points. If it had rained before you take this trail, watch out for muddy or slippery trails.

This short and easy hike ends at the edge of a cliff that rewards you with a magnificent view of lower Zion Canyon, including Zion's famous Switchbacks, the Beehives, West Temple, East Temple, Towers of the Virgin and the Streaked Wall. This hike is perfect if you are looking for a high elevation viewpoint, but do not want to tackle a grueling trail.

Canyon Overlook Trail Reviews

I did this hike four times in the three days I was at Zion. Its a fun, scenic, short hike that is great to get your blood flowing in the morning, or if you just want a quiet place to watch sunset after an active day. It is an absolutely beautiful overlook, and at sunrise the clouds above the canyon as well as the canyon walls light up very nicely. I highly recommend watching at least one sunrise here while in Zion.

Came here once when I was 14 and it was cool. Went when I was 24 and it was AWESOME! Guess I enjoy nature now more however this is a bit of a risk takers hike. Lots of steep edges but the payoff is worth it. In the winter you cross and walk on a frozen waterfall! Zion truly is so Zen, Buddha would make this the new Tibet!!

Parking can be an issue as it's a popular trail but it's definitely worth the hassle for the view.
