Hike the Scout Lake & Kamas Lake Loop in the Uintas

Hanna, Utah

Description

Distance: 8.75 km (5.4 mile) loopElevation gain: 320 m (1,049 ft)Great hike for a dog (3 lakes)Great views of the UnitasNot crowded

Seeing as you'll pass by three lakes, this is a great hike for dogs, in particular - our pup was tuckered out but well hydrated the entire time. There are great views of the Unitas, and although it is close to popular Mirror Lake Campground, this trail is not nearly as crowded as others. However, there is very little shelter from the sun and it gets pretty hot in the summer. I recommend heading up to the Uintas in the fall when it is a bit cooler compared to the summer and not as muddy as it is in the spring.

The first 3km of this hike is pretty much all up and takes care of most of your elevation gain - 220 meters of the 320 total. One you peak out at 3km the remainder is mostly downhill or flat, except for a brief climb back to the car.

Enjoy the stunning views of the valley, Mt Marshal, and Bald Mountain.
