Little Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake City is a climbers paradise if you are fond of Granite. It is home to hundreds of bouldering problems that are right off the road. If you're looking for a little solitude you can find that as well. The rock here is hard on the hands and can be extremely slick as the weather warms. The grades are tough, you gotta earn it and its a beautiful thing. The bouldering starts .1 miles from the Wasatch National Forest sign at the mouth of the canyon and is scattered all the way 5 miles up the canyon. A good starting point is at the no parking sign .1 miles up on the north side of the road. Walk onto the obvious trail and you will find problems from easy to hard immediately. The 5-mile boulder area is packed with classics and is .9 miles up the road from the wasatch national forest sign. The classics can get busy on the weekends so if your looking for solitude and cooler temps, head to the white pine area 4.7 miles up. Park in the obvious lot on the north side and cross the river on the south side of the road. Some beautiful scenerey awaits you hear as well.
If your looking to camp there is camping in the canyon at Tanner Flat and Albion Basin for a small fee. Two ski resorts are up the road as well that cater people year round. You can get a room and awesome food or do some gnarly mountain biking. Downtown SLC is minutes away so you have all the provisions you'll need. If your heading from the south find your way onto highway 209 from I15 and it will take you right to the canyon. From the north, take I215 from I15 and follow the signs onto highway 210.
Get the mountain project app on your phone and download the wasatch range and you'll be able to navigate all the best problems in the canyon. You can also find what you need in the Utah bouldering book or the ever elusive Black Bible of bouldering in Utah ( Both out of print )Try to avoid the hot days as the rock is already slick in nature and just gets worse. You can find shade or head to higher ground if you gotta go though. Winter bouldering is possible if there is no snow cover.
