Visit the Sun Tunnels, Lucin Utah

Wendover, Utah

Description

Added by Josh Jorgensen

Unique desert campingdestination. Amazing sunrise/night skies, quiet peaceful location.

Nancy Holt, an artist in the seventies, created this place as a way to bring the sky "down to earth." Each tube has a different constellation drilled into the side, and aligns with the sun during the summer and winter solstice.

The point? sleeping in the middle of nowhere in a concrete tube... what more can I say?

In all seriousness though, SO worth it. There is a bit of a drive, so make sure to get gas even when you think you might not need it (If you think you are passing the last gas station, you probably are).

I suggest arriving just before sundown or just after. Make sure to check the weather to make sure there are clear skies for the amazing view of the stars, and for your safety.Get set up, eat breakfast while watching the sun rise up from ground level, and then go exploring!

(Be watchful, there are mountain goats around.)
