Itinerary

Join Hanoi and travel to Hang Kia, hike to Ban Buoc

After breakfast, we hit the road to the West and the rocky plateau of Hang Kia. After about 4 hours (including a break en-route) we reach H’mong ethnic lands perched high in this mountainous region. We are welcomed by a local family for a delicious home-hosted meal. In the afternoon, we pack water and start our hike. The hike lasts for about 3 hours, going downhill the whole time and taking us to the Mai Chau valley. We approach the buffer zone of Pu Luong nature reserve. Today was a warm up. At the end of our hike, we meet our driver again for a short transfer to a local homestay. Here we meet the White Thai people, they will host us during our whole adventure. Note that every day, you will have the possibility to cook dinner with our hosts. This is not formally planned though so tell your guide if you wish to. Total driving distance: 170km Total hiking distance: 11km downhill Accommodation: Homestay, Thai ethnic

Bang Hang to Ban Kho Muong

We depart after breakfast and transfer by bus for about 25 kilometers to the entrance of the Pu Luong nature reserve. We get off the bus at Ban Hang village, where our trek across the nature reserve starts. Within three days, we will hike across the nature reserve from West to East. Along our adventure, we will meet a lot of wonderful people and enjoy diverse sceneries made of mountains, jungle, terrace rice fields and rivers. The trek takes about 5 hours passing by hamlets and wilder areas. We reach the secluded village of Kho Muong in the afternoon. It is a lovely place, pretty untouched and nested at the bottom of a mountainous circus. We will meet the hosts and take some time to refresh and rest before dinner. Total driving distance: 25km Total hiking distance: 16km (14km on trails, 2km on cement pathway) Accommodation: Homestay, White Thai ethnic

Ban Kho Muong to Ban Nua

After breakfast, the adventure continues. The trails today take us deeper in the reserve. We will go through a wild stretch of forest. The distance is quite short but the trek is more challenging. It is a bit of uphill and downhill but rather flat with a few obstacles to pass. We will have a picnic lunch en-route and we arrive at another home in the afternoon, in the village of Ban Nua. Total driving distance: 0km Total hiking distance: 8km, challenging Accommodation: Homestay, White Thai ethnic

Ban Nua Ban Don Pu

The trek today will take us through hamlets and cultivated areas for about 15 kilometers. It is less of a challenge but we should have the opportunities for more interactions. Our destination, Ban Don is reputed to display some of the most beautiful terraced rice fields in the region. You will have the chance to admire our surroundings from the sunbath, by the swimming pool of our lodge. No homestay tonight, for the last evening, we indulge a bit of comfort. Total driving distance: 0km Total trekking distance: 15km

Travel from Luong to Hanoi, where trip concludes

We depart mid-morning by car. We exit the reserve and hit the historical Ho Chi Minh road to Hanoi. Lunch is en route, and arrival in the capital is expected in the mid-afternoon, where the trip concludes. Total driving distance: 175km Total hiking distance: 0km
