Meet the trip leader in Cusco the evening before the trip for a group orientation. Our second day at the Salkantay Lodge in Soraypampa may include a popular hike to a nearby glacial lake|Hike up the Rio Blanco Valley in the shadow of Humantay Peak over the highest point on the trek a pass at 15,213 feet with views of the snow-capped Vilcabamba Range enroute to the Wayra Lodge. Enjoy a leisurely morning before hiking downhill above the Salkantay River. Visit a nearby hot spring before settling into the Colpa Lodge at the confluence of three rivers|Continue down to the Santa Teresa River Valley, through more populated rural areas with coffee plantations and orchards. Explore the village of Lucmabamba before retiring at the Lucma Lodge. Continue our trek towards Llactapata pass for a distant but one-of-a-kind view of Machu Picchu and a visit to the Llactapata Ruins. Begin our final descent by train to the Vilcanota River and the town of Aguas Calientes and overnight at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Lodge. Revel in a guided tour of Machu Picchu and an optional hike to Huayna Picchu then transfer by train back to Cusco for a final night at the center of the Inca Empire.
