Itinerary

Fly from Kathmandu to Varanasi

On arrival in Varanasi you will be met by a World Expeditions representative and transferred to our group hotel.

In Varanasi. Overnight train to Agra

Early this morning, we head to the ghats for an unforgettable sunrise over the Ganges. Our sightseeing today will also include the old city which stands on the west bank of the sacred Ganges and extends back from the ghats in a winding maze of narrow streets. A principle attraction is the long string of bathing ghats where pilgrims make their early morning cleansing wash in the river and we plan to visit the burning ghats where pilgrims are cremated before their last journey down the Ganges. Varanasi is steeped with religious history and culture and the great temples and mosques provide for a fascinating insight into the heart of Indian culture. Tonight we board the train for Agra.

In Agra

This afternoon we visit the famous Red Fort, a fitting testimony to the Great Moghuls - Akbar, Jahangir

To Jaipur via Fatephur Sikri

Experience the spectacular view of the Taj Mahal at sunrise and Shah Jehan’s mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Departing Agra we visit the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri - Akbar’s first Moghul capital en-route to Jaipur.

In Jaipur

The famed ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. The city was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh in the early 18th century, when he moved from Amber to this new site on the plains. We visit the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar; the remarkable observatory that reflects Jai Singh’s passion for astronomy. There is also the Old City with its bazaars and the Hawa Mahal (the Palace of the Winds), originally built as part of the City Palace complex to allow the ladies of the royal household to watch everyday life in the city without being observed.

Drive to Delhi

This morning we leave Jaipur and head to Delhi. In the afternoon we take a sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi including the Red Fort and the Jama Mashed. Tonight we will overnight at the group hotel.

Trip concludes in Delhi

Departure transfer to the airport will be provided.

Additional Information

This one week extension from Kathmandu can be undertaken after any of our treks in Nepal. In Varanasi we visit the temples and ghats along the sacred waters of the Ganges. In Agra we appreciate the incomparable Taj Mahal and the deserted city of Fatephur Sikri, while in Jaipur we visit the spectacular Amber Fort. Finally, a taste of Delhi and its colourful sites concludes this short but stimulating insight into the highlights of northern India.
