From here we have panoramic views of the city. Next is Genghis Square, the central square named after the Genghis Khan. The state department store is another landmark which makes an interesting and useful stop on our orientation tour. There will be a welcome dinner in the evening before we retire to our group hotel.

Ulaanbaatar City Tour

We will commence the day with a visit to Gandan Monastery, the largest and most famous functioning monastery in Mongolia. Here we may experience monks in worship and see the impressive Golden Buddha Statue of Migjid Janraisig. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to tour a local Cashmere factory shop. Our evening program is a folklore concert featuring Mongolian Traditional songs and dances. Overnight at the hotel.

Khustain Nuruu National Park

Today we will drive to a place known as Khustai National Park. There is an ongoing project here focused on the reintroduction of Przewalski-Horses back into their homeland. In the evening we will see the wild horses grazing in the mountain. Meals and overnight at the ger camp. (about 200km)

Visit nomadic family, Ugii Lake

After breakfast we will drive to Ogii Lake. This fresh water lake in the steppe covers 25 square kilometers and is rich with fish and birds. We will have leisurely afternoon walking around the lake taking in the surrounding beauty and watching for birds. Meals and overnight at the ger camp. (about 230km)

Tsenkher Hot Spring

Meals and overnight accommodation at ger camp. (about 150km)

This morning we will drive to the ancient capital of Mongolia, Karakorum. Very little remains of the place from where Genghis Khan launched his mighty cavalry, but what does stand resplendent near the town is the massive walls of the Erdenezuu Monastery. This monastery had to face the onslaught of Soviet desecration during the 19th century but is now being slowly and lovingly restored. Today we will visit Erdenezuu Monastery and spend some time shopping for art and antiques in Karakorum. Meals and overnight at the ger camp. (about 150km)

Ruins of Buddhist Monastery Ongi

Today we will make our way to the Ongi Monastery, arriving in the afternoon. This monastery was erected about 250 years ago and at that time had almost 1,000 monks worshiping here daily. This was once one of 700 monasteries; before they were destroyed under the communist purges of last century. Now, you can find only a few stupas and one temple that have not been destroyed. Dinner and overnight at the ger camp. (about 270km)

Bayanzag – “Jurassic Park”

We will head off in vehicles to the north and make our way to Bayanzag, known as Flaming Cliffs, and enjoy the day hiking amongst the colourful desert sands. Bayanzag is a world renowned dinosaur fossil exploration site, discovered in the 1920’s by Mongolian and American paleontologists. We will be free to explore, feeling like dinosaur hunters, as even to this day many dinosaur fossils remain. Meals and overnight at ger camp. (about 200km)

Gobi Desert - Khongor Sand Dunes

Today we will drive deep into the Gobi desert, until we reach Khongoriin sand dunes, the largest in Mongolia. Meals and overnight is at the ger camp. (about 180km)

Visit nomadic family

This will be a day of leisure activities at Khongoriin sand dunes. Today we will visit local nomadic family and get a taste of their way of life. We will also have a chance to assemble a ger with help of our drivers and guide. Overnight accommodations will be at the ger camp.

Gobi Desert - Yolyn Am

Today we will drive to Yolyn Am (Vulture’s Gorge), on the edge of the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park via Dalanzadgad town, the center of South Gobi Province. Yolyn Am features a narrow canyon, so deep that even in the middle of summer ice and snow remain in the valley floor. This area is rich in wildlife and we may see Argali wild sheep, ibex and, for the extremely lucky, the renowned snow leopard. There is a small museum here with a collection of dinosaur fossils, and taxidermy displays. Dinner and overnight at the ger camp.

Gobi Desert – Baga Gazryn Chuluu

We will drive back into Middle Gobi province, until we reach Baga Gazriin Chuluu, a granite stone formation surrounded by desert plain, the highest peak reaching 1,751 meters above sea level.
