Meet in Kathmandu and drive to Chitwan

This morning we depart Kathmandu for the drive to Chitwan. We generally arrive in time for lunch to be served in the dining hall. Lunch will be followed by a walk around the camp and an introduction to the elephants and their mahouts. You have some time to settle into your comfortable safari style accommodation before a late afternoon stroll down to the rivers edge to observe the elephants bathe. Its a beautiful sight to behold as the elephants enjoy the cooling waters of the river with the tranquil backdrop of a typical Terai sunset.

Game viewing activities

We rise early this morning to follow the elephants on their morning forage in the grass lands nearby. The mahouts at this time will cut and collect the grasses needed for the elephants throughout the rest of the day. Mornings are often misty creating a wonderful atmosphere as you watch the elephants move through the long grass. Once the elephants have had their breakfast it will be your turn to indulge in a morning meal followed by spending the remainder of the morning learning how to make kuchis (elephant sandwiches) and watching the elephants interact with each other. In the afternoon you will be treated to a walk in the jungle alongside the elephants allowing a fantastic opportunity to observe their natural behaviors up close. There are many other species of animal in the jungle some of whom you may be lucky enough to spot along the way.

Return to Kathmandu, trip concludes

We complete our last activity, and after breakfast transfer by road to Kathmandu. Trip concludes on arrival in Kathmandu.

Additional Information

This itinerary allows you to be immersed in the elephants’ daily life from sun up to sun down and witness elephants living chain-free in spacious corrals, at a facility that recently scored 9 out of 10 in World Animal Protections 'Taken for a Ride' report into animal friendly tourist facilities. Complimented by atmospheric safari style accommodation in close proximity to the elephants. This trip is an example of how people and animals can come together to create memorable and most importantly ethical experiences that leave those lucky enough, memories to last a lifetime.
