Itinerary

Join Cape Town

Upon arrival at Cape Town Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel for twin share accommodation for the next 5 nights. Rest of the day at leisure.

Full day Cape Point and Cape Peninsula driving and cycling tour, including the Cape of Good Hope (80-90km)

Meet your guide at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (please check your tour voucher for pick-up time and place). We travel by a shuttle vehicle up to Signal Hill for a bird's eye view of the Atlantic Seaboard. From here we descend into Camps Bay and alongside the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range before reaching the historic Hout Bay Harbour. The spectacular Chapman's Peak mountain pass allows a superb lunch stop with the best views in town. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided hike to the old lighthouse at Cape Point which stands head and shoulders above everything else. Then we have a choice of a guided hike or bike ride from Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope, which showcases the unsurpassed beauty of the southern tip of Africa. We may be lucky enough to spot zebra, eland, baboons and ostriches, a few of the species in the protected reserve. Return to Cape Town along the eastern side of the peninsula visiting the African Penguin colony at Boulders Beach for a close-up view of the Jackass penguin en route. Overnight: Cape Town.

Full day visiting Cape Winelands and Paarl, with cycling (20-30km)

After a trip briefing and introduction, travel by shuttle vehicle (approx 45 mins) to Paarl in the heart of the Cape Winelands region. Home to the mighty Paarl Rock, the second largest granite outcrop in the world, and the Taal Monument, a tribute to the Afrikaans language, Paarl is a historic town resplendent with natural wonders and some superb wine estates. We set off on our custom-made mountain bikes, past a number of charming cafes and quaint guesthouses with the vineyards rolling down the slopes to greet us. We make our way off the tarred road and onto Jan Phillips Mountain Drive, which leads us into the pristine Paarl Mountain and Nature Reserve, with the jagged peaks of the Paardeberg mountains glistening in the distance. Cycling through this shaded sanctuary, we make our way towards the mighty Paarl Rock. We climb up the hill and are rewarded with magnificent views of the valley below. Afterward, we ease our way downhill and into a Cheese and Wine Estate where we sample their selection of cheeses and award winning wines. Continue along a tractor trail, meandering through lush vineyards with wonderful views - Table Mountain is visible on a clear day. This wonderful trail connects a couple of wine estates. We try some of their best wines while enjoying a gourmet lunch. Our cycling ends at Seidelberg Wine Estate, and we are shuttled back to Cape Town in the late afternoon. Cycle Safety Checklist Please familiarise yourself with the following checklist before you commence your cycling trip. • Always ride in a straight line about 1 metre out from the kerb or parked vehicles. • Always look ahead and constantly check the road for hazards and dangers. • Always communicate with other road users - make your intentions clear. Try and make eye contact with the other road user. • Always keep both hands on your bikes handlebars - except if signalling your intention to turn. • Always maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle (or bike) in front of you. • Always respect and obey the road rules and regulations. • Always wear a protective helmet and if cycling at dusk or night, wear reflective clothing. • Always ride in a responsible and sensible manner.

Trek up Table Mountain (2-3hrs)

Make your own way to the starting point for the Table Mountain hike (transport leaves from central Cape Town). All hikers are then transported to the start of the trail. Together with our guides, we set out on a thrilling ascent to Table Mountain's highest point. A spectacular guided walk up Platteklip Gorge to Maclear's Beacon, the highest point of Table Mountain. You will be rewarded with unrivalled views of the Cape Peninsula and beyond. Once you have reached the top of Table Point, you can walk around the plateau admiring the views in all directions. Descend from Table Mountain with the cable car (own expense), and make your own way back to the hotel. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Platteklip Gorge hike is described as being - UP - relentlessly up! It’s the most direct route to the top of the mountain. However, it is not a route to be trifled with; the going can be tough. The walk ascends the main gorge that divides the front face (Africa face) of Table Mountain. The path is well constructed with stone steps and anti-erosion gabions, and is not difficult to negotiate at any point. However, it is steep, and the best way to tackle Platteklip is slowly - don’t try to rush it, and frequent stops will give you a chance to look back at the great view of Cape Town and Table Bay below. Distance: about 3km up! Time: between 1hr for the super fit to 3hrs for the more leisurely. Rating: moderate to tough, depending on fitness and weather Water: always take plenty of your own, especially in summer
