Our quick weekend getaway will combine paved recreation paths, off route canyon roads and a high but gentle mountain pass to give you an excellent taste of what cycling is like in the heart of the Colorado Rockies.  Combine that with bicycle rental and a stay in an acclaimed resort town full of the rich and famous and you’ve got a true vacation package that takes barely more than a weekend from your calendar.

Trip Highlights:

  • Ride paved recreation paths, off route canyon roads and a high but gentle mountain pass to give you an excellent taste of what cycling is like in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. 
  • Stay in Aspen, the acclaimed playground of the rich and famous 
  • Ride the Rio Grande Trail, nestled between the  Roaring Fork River and the road, all the way to Carbondale
  • Overnight at the classic Aspen Mountain Lodge, a cozy lodge with an on-the-mountain feel
  • Spectacular scenery including the iconic 14,000+ Maroon Bells peaks rising above Aspen trees reflected in the placid waters of Maroon Lake
  • Ride McClure Pass, 3,500 feet of elevation gain en route to Somerset
  • Stop at the famous Woody Creek Tavern for tamales and margaritas
  • Ride by the base of all four of the Aspen ski areas (Buttermilk, Snowmass, Highlands, and Aspen Mountain)

Day-to-Day

Day 1 (43 miles + 2,500 feet): Glenwood to Aspen on the Rio Grande bike trail

Day 2 (40 miles + 3,300 feet): Maroon Bells - Snowmass - Woody Creek - Aspen

Day 3 (50 miles + 3,500 feet): Carbondale to Somerset over McClure Pass
