Itinerary

Arrive Rishikesh

Named after the Lord Vishnu, Rishikesh is a holy city for Hindus. Located in the foothills of the Himalaya in northern India it is also known as the yoga center of the world and is home to many world renowned ashrams. It is the place where the Holy River Ganges starts its long journey from the Himalaya to the Bay of Bengal. If arriving by train today you will be met and transferred from Haridwar train station to the centrally located hotel. No activities have been planned for the rest of the day so you are free to explore this bustling city.

Sightseeing in Rishikesh

After breakfast your local guide will meet you to begin the day of sightseeing in Rishikesh. 3km north of town is Ram Jhula, a popular place for people coming for religious purposes due to its large number of ashrams. Most well known here are Geta Bhawan and Swarg Ashram both of which are packed with temples, statues and people. Further along the valley the hanging footbridge at Laxman Jhula has numerous temples lining either side of the riverbank at this point. The evening prayer at Geeta Bhawans ghat known as arati is a unique experience to see how Hindu’s worship the River Ganges. The evening prayer takes around 30 minutes and is a delight to witness with lamps being lit and placed into the river.

Transfer to station, trip concludes
