Deep Water Soloing in Railay, Thailand

Tambon Ao Nang, Thailand

Description

Added by Cheryl Neoh

Adrenaline rushGreat variety of climbs ranging from easy, low traverses to overhang problemsClear, calm watersLots of beach options for lounging in between deep-water soloing (DWS) sessions

Once at Railay, there are a host of shops offering DWS guiding services. Often times, the shops band together on the same boat anyway so it doesn't really matter which provider you choose to go with. Generally they provide you with shoes so you don't have to worry about your gear being ruined from salt water.

If you pony up some extra bucks, you could enjoy a more private DWS experience where you're paddled right to the start holds so you can start your climb nice & try. The alternative is to dive right in and tackle your way up via a rope ladder.

Test your nettle by climbing as high as you dare. For those who would just like to test the waters (pun intended), many routes are of the traversing nature so you can opt to move horizontally if you'd prefer a shorter jump into the water.

Tip: When entering the water, try to keep your hands by your sides and enter the water in as upright of a position as possible. Thanks to the clear waters of Railay, the bottom appears closer than it actually is but the guides know have scouted out the spots well and choose according to the tides.
