This is a great scenic hike to a slot canyon in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It's about an hour drive from Carlsbad,NM.
You start at the trailhead for Guadalupe Peak. Head up the hill and hang a right at the fork. There is a sign pointing out the way. Hike along the side of a dry creek bed until the trail hits the creek bed. Then it gets fun! Work your way through the canyon scrambling over boulders and up the natural Hiker's Staircase until you reach the hall. The trail continues for about a quarter mile past the hall where you will see a sign. April through September this is the end of the line due to sensitive habitat. October through March you can keep going but I'm not sure how far.
