At 8 acres, Ruby M. Mize is the largest azalea garden in Texas. This garden is located within a 50-year old Loblolly Pine forest and is home to 6,500 azaleas, 200 camellias and 180 varieties of Japanese Maple. The garden is in full bloom the end of March - beginning of April.  Address:  2107 University Dr, Nacogdoches, TX 75962

Fairfield State Park North Loop is a ~2 mile trail with spectacular lake views located near Fairfield, TX. This trail is dog friendly (on-leash).

Just north of Huntsville and Houston, Texas, the Blue Lagoon is the perfect place to cool off and watch the sunlight reflect off the water. There is also a great opportunity to walk through the wooded area behind the  lake and take some pictures of the trees and the water. This is really a lovely place to hang out and very secluded if you don't go on busy days.

Park in the circle in the Boykin Springs Recreation Area (see map) to access the trail. This is a dog-friendly trail that doesn't get crowded.

Tyler State Park Lake Loop Trail is a scenic ~2 mile loop hike that takes you by the state parked named Tyler Lake. This is a well-maintained trail that is good for the whole family.
