Get a Better View of Mono Lake from Panum Crater

Hike up a crater that is part of the youngest mountain range in North America.

By: Susan Allen + Save to a List

The approximately 600-year-old Panum Crater in Lee Vining, California was formed from a volcanic eruption and is now part of the youngest mountain range in North America. Remnants of the silica-rich lava can be seen today as chunks of obsidian, also known as volcanic glass, which were used by Native Americans to carve arrowheads.
