Create your own adventure as you trek across an island with very few inhabitants and very many things to see.

Despite the prevalence of urban sprawls and mega cities in South Korea, Ulleung Island (울릉도) has remained untouched by the rapid modernization.  This is largely due to the fact that without a commercial airport.  The only way to access the island is by a 3 hour ferry boat ride from 1 of 4 eastern ports (Pohang, Hupo, Mukho and Gangeung).
A great resource for travelers with a cell phone is to call the free tourist information hotline 24/7 by dialing 1330.

Seonginbong Peak (984m elevation) is Ulleung Island's highest point.  Follow the posted signs from the main port town of Dodong-ri to get to the island's peak.  You can hike back the way you came or continue on the trail to the opposite side of the island.  A road extends around the circumference of the island and you can catch a bus back to Dodong-ri or continue exploring.

Camping along the side of trail is possible in some areas and the views of the city and fishing boats at night are magical.

There are many small restaurants and corner stores located around the perimeter of the island so food/drinks are easy to find.  Before you set out, make sure to pack a days worth of water and ample food.  Kimbap (Korean sushi) is light, healthy, and can be wrapped to go so it makes an excellent travel snack.
