But, Jefferson, amongst his many talents, was a trained surveyor. What is one to make of the over 100' difference in height. Answer? Because of mining operations, the falls, which once were estimated up to 240' high, were re-routed to the current location They are quite pretty, but nowhere near as impressive as the old sketches.
