Adventure is life. ABQ is my home base.

Loved this quick and easy trek right off of the Parkway. Do make sure the road is open and best to arrive early. Temp were 20 degrees and the parking areas were still packed. A must do if in the area!

The short walk (all paved) makes this a popular pull over for visitors so it may be crowded with large groups/families. We went in March and the surrounding area was completely iced over so we couldn't walk underneath the falls however the view from walkway is still superb. We hiked the Rabun Bald trek in the am, this was an easy 2nd hike of the day. If you are up for a beer afterwards take the short drive into Franklin and check out Lazy Hiker Brewco

The hike and view are fantastic for this area however the crowds are much less desirable... Hence the four stars. If you go on a weekend, it will be busy with ppl and dogs. Lots of folks bring hammocks and chill at the top. Recommend walking around the summit for views in varied directions.

We followed the directions listed above and it worked out perfectly. Wouldn't recommend the hike on a windy day in below zero temps (which was our experience) however the views were totally worth it!

Loved this waterfall. Yeah it is a short trek but the rock formation on which the water cascades down is not something seen very often. Highly recommend.

Great spot for exploring the eastern side of north Georgia including the small town of Clayton. Check out the Wander North Georgia shop on Main Street for a great list of trails in the area.

This hike is a must do for the suspension bridge and falls below. We also walked out to inspiration point prior to hiking down for a varied perspective. Furthermore, if you want a different experience, make sure to check in with the visitors center for a schedule of their full moon evening hikes down into the gorge!

Beautiful long trek with amazing look outs along the way. Our hike read closer to 8 miles since once you reach the summit you want to continue along the path all the way to the end for a beautiful view of lakes below.

This park is beautiful and offers so many options for great treks AND is usually less crowded than others. Leave time to relax at the falls before hiking up to the church/overlook which is about 3/4 of a mile up on a not very well maintained trail. Check in with the park ranger when you park and they will show you a map of the area to help you navigate. There is one point on that trail where you will want to continue straight but the trail actually turns left up a rock. You know you went the right way when right around the corner from the big rock are ropes to help you climb the next set of rocks. Don't fear...Beautiful views await!

Beautiful hike in Sabino Canyon! The tram mentioned in the description above runs once per hour on the hour so we opted to walk the mile to the trailhead turning this into a 7mi or so RT hike. Plan your hike to arrive prior to about 2pm as the sun will begin to set behind the hills blocking the light to Seven Falls. FYI - entrance is free with a National Park pass... enjoy!

Hiked in early December and the weather was perfect. The trail is extremely well maintained and views of the area were superb. You can hike it fast or slow... either way you might have some trouble deducting which rock is actually "Tom's Thumb" which is all part of the fun!

We stayed at Usery for a few nights and this was our favorite hike in the park. Go in the evening for a nice sunset over the east valley. Caves were nothing special but hike offered nice views and the trail was well maintained.

This beautiful hike is only about 15 miles from town and right on the edge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range which is the southernmost subrange of the Rockies. The hike takes you through breathtaking aspens and along a small river until you reach peaceful Name Lake. The trail is a bit challenging but worth the serenity at the top. The drive up to the ski area also offers spectacular views along the way.

We visited ABQ for the first time in November. The city is backed up against the Sandia Mountains… Spanish for Watermelon, referring to the pinkish color the mountains take on during sunsets, wowzas! The mountains are extremely close to town offering a quick and easy escape from city life. We set off on the Pino Trail. Our plan was to hike Pino to the Crest trail to the Sandia Peak Tramway which we would then take back down the mountain. However, we did not pick the best day for the trek and ended up hiking into a rain storm and turned around halfway. Looking for a longer hike? We also heard great things about the La Luz Trail (14mi) … this one also makes it easy for you to hike up and take the Tram down as well if interested.

If you are looking for a hike that is convenient, a good workout and with views of Phoenix then check out Camelback. It is a very busy trail with locals and tourists alike. Either take your time scrambling up the mountain or hussle for a heart pumping workout. I went the first week of December and there was a Christmas tree at the top decorated in eco friendly ornaments!

Trail is great in the fall. Be on the lookout for wildlife in the open meadow!

This 1 mi lava tube hike was a very unique experience and unlike anything we experienced in the area. Wear a headlamp and hiking shoes as rocks are slippery. Bring a flashlight (and extra layers, the cave is 40º). Very fun!!

Beautiful 2.5 mi hike with nice views and little elevation gain. If you want to add more, head up to Elden Lookout Trail for a 5.2 mi RT hike with close to 2,000′ of elevation gain.

This is a fun intermediate hike... you get to scramble on your hands and knees and explore off the beaten path. You can easily hike to the top and back down in two hours or choose to spend a half day exploring this area. Once you reach the top and take in the backside view make sure to continue on to the left for another stunning (less crowded) view of Sedona.

We hiked this short flat trail before hiking to Doe Mountain for sunset. Make sure you scale the rock at the end of the trail for stunning valley views.

This short hike is perfect for sunset! Bring snacks and a flashlight as you will not want to run down the mountain right as the sun sets. Leave enough time to roam the mesa and settle in to your favorite spot to witness the breathtaking colors.
