The Mahan Plaque Trail on the Avenue of the Giants is a 1 mile hike - a perfect introduction to the park for all skill levels and ages.

The Mahan Plaque Trail is an amazing hike featuring giant redwoods along the Avenue of the Giants. The trail is open for use year-round. If you look closely, you may be able to spot the albino redwood.

In 1924, Laura Mahan (president of the local Save-the-Redwoods League) and James Mahan (prominent Eureka attorney) took a stand to prevent the forests in Humboldt Redwoods from being logged. The Save-the-Redwoods League purchased the land six years later, and thanks to them, we all have the opportunity to enjoy the splendors of these woods today (including the many mammals and organisms that call these woods home!).
