Great place for a beach picnic. Scenic and unique rock formation. Watch sunset over the ocean.

Shark Fin Cove is a large rock formation in an inlet off Highway 1 in Northern California. It is located 1 mile south of Davenport and 10 miles north of Santa Cruz. There is a sizable parking lot located on the side of Highway 1 to park in. Walk down the path left of the parking lot and cross the train tracks, there is a sign indicating the cove. There is a large pipe you have to go under and, while the path down to the cove isn't long, it is pretty steep and uneven, so walk carefully. There are also great places to take pictures on the cliffs on either side of the rock before you head down to the beach.

The beach has the large, shark fin shaped rock in the middle as well as a small cave on the left. The beach is perfect for a picnic, to watch the sunset, take some pictures, or just relax. There are no dogs or fires allowed on the beach (though I often see small bonfires there anyways).

Beach Picnic at Shark Fin Cove Reviews

Park a little bit farther from the main parking lot so you can walk along the old railroad track! Tons of photo opportunities.

The path to the beach is a little tricky but manageable. Nice photo opportunities await you.
