Active Overnight in Marin

When you think of singletracks and camping (because that's what we all do), most don't think of San Rafael, located in central Marin County. But, the next time you're planning on an adventure to cross the Golden Gate and head North, consider visiting China Camp State Park. It's 23 miles North of San Francisco and about 6 miles off of Highway 101. You'll be glad you made the journey once you've arrived and see what the setup is like.

China Camp offers 30 campsites to chose from, over 70 acres of wilderness to explore, and miles of singletracks that are regarded as some of Marin's best. One of the most popular rides is a 9.27 mile loop with 1,200 feet of elevation gain on the Shoreline and Bay View Trail. If you're not into mountain biking, but enjoy wandering secluded beaches, fishing, barbecuing or drinking cold beers with your feet in the water, China Camp beach is the place for you. On warm days, you can go for a swim or just lounge in the sand, before making your way back for a campfire and s'mores. On your way home, be sure to check out Marin County's largest, and in my opinion, best, farmers market. It runs on Sundays and Thursdays form 8:00-1:00 and you can re-stock the fridge and pantry until your next set of Marin County adventures.
