Description

Added by Charles Post

When all the other Big Sur campsites are full or out of your price range, more often than not, you can find a free camping spot with an ocean viewAll of these sites are within the Los Padres National Forest and within a stones throw of a vast expanse of forest and coastline waiting to be exploredYou’ll be graced with epic views of the Pacific Ocean and have front row seats for an unforgettable sunrise and or sunsetA short drive to two renowned surf spots, Willow Creek and Sand Dollar BeachSeemingly endless miles of hiking trails available within the National ForestKeep in mind there's a fire warning until the winter, so no fires and no stovesDuration: Full Day or overnight

Everyone knows the feeling of arriving at the campsite you meticulously research online and bragged to all of your friends about, just to find that all of the sites are filled. The trusty website, which assured you sites were available, has failed you again.

This harsh reality of road trips and weekend adventures is especially common in Big Sur, where it seems like the hoards of visitors persist throughout the week, making your search for an epic camp spot that much more difficult. Not to mention, it’s not uncommon to find campsites that falsely advertise the perks of a particular location. “Camping with an ocean view” or “in a secluded and private setting” are just a few of the tag lines that may catch your eye initially, but prove to be the most misleading once you’ve arrived at your “very own, quiet, ocean view campsite”.

For all of you in search of a free, publicly accessible campsite that overlooks the vast Pacific Ocean and is likely quieter than almost every campsite within the Big Sur coast, look no further, camping off of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road in southern Big Sur can’t be beat.

Ocean View Camping in Southern Big Sur Reviews

Amazing! Any particular spot along this road where we should pull off? Not seeing anything obvious in map. Just any turnout we can find or something?
