A ridiculous amount of variety all packed into one hike. Enjoy alpine forest, protected meadows and amazing views of Anza-Borrego desert scapes in just about 10 miles!

Parking is on the side of the road next to the Penny Pines Trailhead. The entire length of the loop trail is easy to navigate ... It is well worn, and frequently marked with Pacific Crest Trail markers. The beginning part of the trail combines with the Noble Canyon Trail. Follow the PCT markers to the left, and continue for about 1 mile. At this point, you will begin to enter Laguna Meadow. Depending on the amount of recent snow or rainfall, you may be able to see a small pond on the right side of the trail. There are several scattered downed trees alongside the trail, but not difficult to navigate around. Make sure to stay on the trail here ... The meadow is currently protected and rehabbing, so leave no trace and enjoy the open beauty!Continue following the trail to the left ... Keep following the PCT markers! You will see a small wooden bridge to your right with a fence to the left. Cross over the bridge and follow the path alongside the fence as it leads you into the trees. For the next 2 miles, you will now start to gain some elevation through an increasingly rocky trail. You will cross over a paved road, and continue onto the trail. At around 5 miles, keep following a red dirt multi use road. You will not see any PCT markers here. Just when you think you made a wrong turn, you will see a marker on the left for the PCT and the path continues. You will now begin to hike along the ridge line and see a beautiful array of nature. The ridge line has the remnants of a past fire, with some new growth. The burnt trees and sage will give way to a rocky area that will give you an AMAZING view of the Anza-borrego desert. There's plenty of places to kick back and enjoy a snack and the view. After snacks and great photo opportunities, you will note the trail beginning to loop back around. In less than a mile, you will begin to be able to see the road again. We extended our hike by another mile by hiking a trail just below the roadway and extended seeing panoramic views of the desert and old, abandoned shacks and vehicles. At the end, you will cross the highway again to meet back at the Penny Pines Trailhead. Enjoy!!
