Lighthouse (93ft tall), built in 1872. Daily lighthouse tours. Short hike to a gorgeous 360 degree lookout. Tide pools along the coastline. Family friendly. Food nearby in Newpoort, Oregon.

The Yaquina Head Natural Area is home to the historic 93 ft tall Yaquina Head lighthouse, built in 1872. The construction of the lighthouse from approximately 370,000 bricks took nearly a year, and the lighthouse has been active ever since.

The park is open daily, from 7am until sunset; however, if you want to go on a tour you'll want to plan your visit around one of the scheduled tour times.

The guided tours of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse are available daily from 11am to 4pm on the hour. To sign up for a tour, visit the interpretive center along the road before coming to the lighthouse. Space is limited, so it's first come first serve.

Some of the best views of the lighthouse can be seen from one of two places. The first is back up the road you came in on, along the left, which gives a beautiful side view of the lighthouse and the coastline leading up to it. The second is a short hike from the parking lot up to the 360 degree lookout from the adjacent hill. This is a great place to go if you brought a picnic, or if you want an amazing panoramic view, or are coming late to catch a sunset!

If you want to visit the tide pools along the coastline, be sure to check a tide chart in advance so that the tides are low when you decide to make your visit.

If you're hungry after your visit, there are many great restaurants like the Saffran Salmon and the Noodle Cafe, a brief jaunt away in the town of New Port.

There is a small parking fee if you're trying to reach the lighthouse by vehicle. It's well worth the charge. The views are spectacular, catching a sunset is priceless. There are other viewpoints along the coastline where the lighthouse is visible but you'll have to do just a little hiking.

Scenic views and tons of history make this place a fun site stop at along the Oregon coast!
