Description

Added by James Dustin Parsons

See Mt. Bachelor from a unique perspective on this trail up Tumalo Mountain. Backcountry options are available without any of the crowds.

There is an official trail to the summit that begins just North of the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park parking area. The trail is signed and states 1.5 miles to the summit. When there is snow on the ground, you will not see the the official trail. You will need snowshoes or skins, but you just head straight up the mountain from the parking area, following any broken trail you can find.

You cannot get lost if you just keep going up. Within about 1 mile you will begin to break out of the trees, and here is where the views begin! The view looking back at Bachelor is insane from here. The view looking North at Broken Top and South Sister is great too.

You can continue on to the summit for 360 degree views and for great skiing down the east side of the mountain.

Tumalo Mountain Trail Reviews

On a clear day, this snowshoe offers spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. A fairly easy trail of prints in the snow guides you straight up the mountain, through snow-covered trees. Once you break treeline, the peak will open up to a relatively flat area allowing you to meander the summit for unparralled views.

Black butte and Pilot butte views are nothing compared to the views on top of Tumalo Mt. Insane views of the Sisters, Mt Bachelor, and most of all Broken Top mountain! A must do hike in the area!

This fairly easy hike gives you one of the best vantages point to see all of Central Oregon. You can see Mt. Theilson, Mt. Bailey, Mt. Scott and obviously Bachelor to the South, Brokentop and the Three Sisters to the west and even Smith rock out to the north, not to mention Bend and all the surrounding areas to the east.
