Everyone loves Latourell right? Here's a longer hike with more places to visit and less people.

Park at the Latourell Falls Trailhead and begin on the Latourell Falls trail. Summer days and weekends are exceptionally busy, for the best viewing times go early or during a week day. Not only is this parking lot easily accessible but also doesn't have a parking fee. During the summer, the falls run low and they turn into a mist. For the best viewing season go in the fall after a good rainfall or perhaps in the spring. During the winter the splash from the falls will freeze the trail across the bridge so if you're looking for a snow hike make sure you are properly equipped.

You'll begin on the path that takes you to Latourell Falls, take a short, less than a quarter of a mile walk, to the base of the falls and stop for a picture (hopefully with no people in it). After you've taken in the 250' waterfall continue on the trail past the bridge to begin a small climb. Stick to your left at the junction and follow the trial until you cross the first bridge that consists of a log, cross the river here. The trail begins to become a little rocky and you will cross four more bridges until you reach Upper Latourell falls. This is the highlight of your hike, so stop and eat a snack and take in the smaller, less crowded waterfall from the bridge. Once you've grabbed a few pictures continue on past the bridge to your last attraction.

On the way to the last attraction you will find many foot paths down to the river. You can choose to stop on a hot day and dip your feet in, stop for a rest, or do some casual exploring down the river.

You'll eventually reach a bench overlooking a point next to a cable. You can choose to venture off behind the cable for views of the gorge or to look down seeing viewers look up at the falls for some amusement. From here you can't actually see the falls as you are on top of the falls at this point. If you choose to go behind the cable remember that the cable is there for a reason so venture carefully, this view is not worth the slip of a foot and a 250' drop.

Continue on the trail you were on as it will start descending back down to the Old River Highway and reach the junction you took a left at earlier. Once you hit the highway, cross it and follow the trial on the other side to your car for the safest return. You could also walk along side of the highway to your car if you so choose.

If you feel like you still have some adventure left in you head up to the Vista House to take in views of the gorge from an easily accessed viewpoint before you head home.
