Description

Smith Rock is a well known destination in Central Oregon that offers scenic walks, hikes, stunning views, rock climbing, mountain biking, picnic spots, and more!30 million years ago, a large caldera was formed and filled with ash debris which became the rock tuff. A half million years ago, lava from volcanoes nearby covered the older rock. Then the crooked river cut it's way through the valley creating the current scenes at Smith Rock State Park.

A beautiful Easter walk through Smith Rock State Park. We chose the easy stroll along the river to take photos and watch the rock climbers. But if you want a challenge, hike up 2/3 of a mile with a 3,000 ft gain to see Monkey Face rock and the gorgeous views of Central Oregon.

The 4-mile hike starts on the River Trail heading towards Monkey Face, ascend the Mesa Verde Trail up to Misery Ridge and then head back down to the footbridge ending at the parking lot. Hikers also have an 8-mile round trip hike option.

This area is known for rock climbing, from beginners to advanced climbers, there is something for everyone.
