A desert scene consisting of towering volcanic rock formations.
I think that when you decide to travel through Oregon, you anticipate a scenery that surrounds you in luscious green forests and crystal blue rivers that you cannot take your eyes off of. Rather at Leslie Gulch; it's about the volcanic "tuff" formations that tower over you.
From Highway 93 heading south;
- Turn right onto McBride Creek Rd.
- Left at the first Y
- You will pass AC Ranch, you then take a slight right
- Turn right again onto Succor Creek Rd.
- Left onto Leslie Gulch Rd.
- Stay left until you reach Leslie Gulch
You will then pull up to some camp spots on the way, but you will run into a dirt parking lot with several cabana's to camp at. Each spot will have a metal parking guard for each vehicle to stay. There is a bathroom with only the necessities but hey; it's something.
You can wake up in the morning and take a couple hikes, or if you have a boat, there is a boat launch near the camp sites. You can visit the BLM website for more information on Leslie Gulch.
It's a place well worth seeing, but I want to warn you about the snakes out there. I haven't personally seen one, because I went in April, but I've heard they're somewhat common in the summer.

Camp at Leslie Gulch Reviews
So there are two Leslie Gulch adventures here on the Outbound. This one about camping and the other about hiking. I’m leaving the review here since the directions on the one is better. With that said this took me about an hour and half drive from Boise to get to. Google maps said it will take two and half but I think that’s due to the dirt roads that last 30 miles. If your in a car that might be the case but if your in a SUV or Truck it will go by faster (I was in a Jeep). The area is beautiful and once you actually get in the canyon you’ll be amazed. There are two dedicated hiking trails off the main path however I didn’t get far on them as they had a lot of poison ivy and I came unprepared wearing shorts and t-shirt due to the warmer temps that day, so if you plan to hike make sure to bring proper clothing .

Please call me so I can gush appropriately about how magical this spot is. The drive can be rough, but every turn reveals new colors depending on when you go. We went on a very cloudy day that should have kept me and my two youngest kids inside because we were ill-prepared, but the Sunday away from church gave us a new perspective on exploration. We only had a water bottle and chucks and made it to the top of the hike before stickies and picks became necessary. GO!!!! Take everyone!!!!

This trip was so beautiful down in Oregon. The cliff formations are crazy cool and we even went climbing around and through tons of them, camping is easy here and there is tons of wild life, watch out for rattle snakes though!!!
