A desert scene consisting of towering volcanic rock formations.

I think that when you decide to travel through Oregon, you anticipate a scenery that surrounds you in luscious green forests and crystal blue rivers that you cannot take your eyes off of. Rather at Leslie Gulch; it's about the volcanic "tuff" formations that tower over you.

From Highway 93 heading south;

Turn right onto McBride Creek Rd.
Left at the first Y
You will pass AC Ranch, you then take a slight right
Turn right again onto Succor Creek Rd.
Left onto Leslie Gulch Rd.
Stay left until you reach Leslie Gulch

You will then pull up to some camp spots on the way, but you will run into a dirt parking lot with several cabana's to camp at. Each spot will have a metal parking guard for each vehicle to stay. There is a bathroom with only the necessities but hey; it's something.

You can wake up in the morning and take a couple hikes, or if you have a boat, there is a boat launch near the camp sites. You can visit the BLM website for more information on Leslie Gulch.

It's a place well worth seeing, but I want to warn you about the snakes out there. I haven't personally seen one, because I went in April, but I've heard they're somewhat common in the summer.

great hikes. the terrain feels like its from another world. if it rains or has rained recently you may want to re-think this area as the road can get nasty. bring water. so many cool hikes around here. you won't regret this one. worth the drive.

I would not recommend camping in the designated camping grounds if you are looking for more of a wilderness experience. The campground is great for an RV but not for a tent. The many trails off the main road are great for hiking up into the canyons. You are surrounded by incredible scenery stemming from the huge volcanic rock formations that characterize this area. It would be an easy day hike up into the canyons for a night under the stars--away from the noise and the lights of the city. Leslie Gulch is only an hour and a half from Caldwell which makes it a great place to get into the countryside on the weekends without having to drive too far. Just a gorgeous place to be!
