Walk along this piece of history! This trail will lead you along the Erie Canal past locks and to an old canal store.

This is a great beginner trail run. The 5.0 mile roundtrip is level.

Park along the road and sign in. You will follow the Towpath trail to the Yankee Hill Lock. You will travel alongside the Erie Canal and eventually the Mohawk River will be at your opposite side.

At the 0.5 mile mark you will reach Lock 20 and Empire Lock. There will be interpretive signage here.

More interpretive signage will be reached at the 2.5 mark. Here is Yankee Hill Lock 28 and the Putnam Canal Store. This spot also features parking, picnis tables, grill and a dock. The Mohawk bike trail also runs through the area.

Relax enjoy a bit of history and return.

For all you Geocachers there are several caches in the area as well!!

I hike to push my limits both mentally and physically, take in the beauty of the great outdoors, and just to get away from it all. Every chance I get you will find me in the mountains, on a kayak or ending my day by the campfire!

Hike to Beaver Pond

New York / Appalachian Trailhead at Canopus Lake

Beaver Pond is a small body of water created by a dam that was constructed during the days of iron ore mining in the area.  The pond is crystal clear and has a wonderful tree line right on the water.

Hike the Perkins/Fahnestock/Charcoal Burners Trail Loop

New York / Charcoal Burners Trailhead, Clarence Fahnestock State Park

This is one of my favorite hikes in the Clarence Fahnestock State Park. A real mixed bag but mostly very enjoyable. The trail starts at the Charcoal Burners Trailhead Route 301.
