Description

Added by Anthony D'Ercole

The Draw of Hook Mountain is the accessibility of the trail while still providing a tremendous view the river. The peak of the trail is about 700 feet and gives some historical insight along the ascent.

The entrance to the path is located on Palmer Drive, not the actual entrance to Hook Mountain State Park. Parking along the wood-line, there is a clear opening along the end of the road that is part of the green path. The path will wind up and down for a few miles until you reach a peak encompassed by pine trees overlooking both the Hudson River to the east and an old mining quarry to the west. Continuing on this path, the descent is laced with great views of the river coastline of Nyack. Around the northern most point of the trail are several old lookout points from the late 1700s used to spot incoming ships. Paired with 7 miles of quality scenery, the historical flashbacks provide a nice twist to experience both nature and war era ruins. The conclusion of the trail is the Nyack Beach State Park which runs right along the Hudson River where often locals come to exercise, walk dogs and even fish. Finding your car is as simple as making right onto Larchdale Ave, a left on N Midland and a right onto Radcliff Drive.
