150 miles of roads going through some beautiful scenery and 3 Mission ruins in it's heart.

The Salt Mission Trail scenic byway is a 150 mile loop drive in central New Mexico going through some quaint little towns, beautiful scenery and  home to the ruins of 3 of the salt missions. The scenic byway is actually several highways. US 60, NM 55 , NM 41 and NM 333. You can start the byway either from the North or the South End. Follow the special signs with the Byway logo to stay on the byway. The Southern part is the part where the missions are.

The visitor center for the missions is in downtown Mountainair. The town has some interesting murals. The 3 missions also have a small visitor centers.

The missions have several trails where you can hike and enjoy the scenery. The ruins are quite impressive. 

There is a motel  and places to eat in Mountainair  and the town has a small grocery store.
