Description

Added by Andy Wickersham

Located in a remote part of New Mexico within the Carson National Forest, this protected area provides an incredible opportunity for backpacking. Beautiful views are around every turn, when we were there we felt like we had the entire place to ourselves!

The Valle Vidal sits at about 10,000 ft going up to 13,000 ft in some areas, for this trip we were on the east part of the unit. There are no trails here so you will have to map and navigate on your own, which is not terribly difficult here with some before hand research. We were here for 4 days and 3 nights in the middle of May, it was chilly at night and pretty warm during the day. We struggled to find water the second day as some of the mapped rivers were dry that time of year, luckily we came across a river that had not yet dried up. I absolutely fell in love with this place and will be returning very soon!!
