Flume gorge is a wonderful place to spend a few hours exploring an amazing canyon in the heart of Franconia Notch State Park. The hike is rather easy on a nice summer day and provides amazing views.
After paying the $16 entry fee, a shuttle swings around every 10 minutes to bring people to the foot of the trail. As you walk up, the trail winds along and across a river, up to some small cascades.
Continuing along the wooded path takes you down into a long canyon filled with rushing water. The whole path makes for excellent photos.
After the gorge itself, you can either choose to take a longer hike or head back to the parking lot and finish the loop, either way, you won't be disappointed.
