I would recommend taking this hike earlier in the morning because it does get hot during the summer months. Bring lots of water, and bug spray! I got eaten alive the second time I went. It's a beautiful hike which over looks diamond lake and mount bailey when you reach the top. I would say it's more of 9 mile hike depending on how far you decide to ascend the mountain. When you get to the base stay towards the left. If you take the right trail then you will be taking the PCT.
