Photograph Bowman Lake

Bowman Lake is located in this less traveled section of Glacier National Park. To reach it, you must exit the main entrance of the park and re-enter at the entrance outside of the town of Polebridge. Polebridge alone is absoultely adorable and has some delicious eats in the bakery.

Once you enter, there is a 6 mile drive down a long, narrow, dirt road that dumps you out into Bowman Lake Campground. The drive takes about 45 minutes, but it is not very populated and everyone drives respectfully (Bonus!).

We camped there for 2 nights (for only $15/night), which gave me ample opportunity for some night photography and a spectacular sunrise. Even just during the day, the lake is beautiful. There is plenty of wildlife in the area (this is where we saw two black bears on the same day at separate times). There are lots of deer as well that like to wander into the lake at dawn and dusk when there aren't so many people. That's also when the lake becomes perfectly still, creating a fantastic reflection of the mountains in the background.

One night we also got the chance to witness an aurora. The night skies are beautiful every night and they are plenty dark for astrophotography.

There is ample parking once you get to the end of the road and lots of hiking to do in the area as well. So just get out there and enjoy the serenity. The photographs practically take themselves.
