~View of the Bridger Mountains, Paradise Valley, Yellowstone, and Big Sky from the peak on a clear day~3,400' of elevation gain over 7.5 miles (15 round-trip)~Only 20 miles outside of Bozeman~Can easily be accomplished as a day hike or leisurely overnighter
As a reasonable 15 mile round trip, Hyalite Peak proves time and time again to be one of the most scenic and iconic peaks within the Gallatin Range. Lying just above a beautiful set of shallow alpine lakes, Hyalite Peak rewards all adventurers with a 360 degree view of over four mountain ranges. After a quick 20 mile jaunt south from Bozeman, the furthest point on the Hyalite Canyon road marks the beginning of the Hyalite Creek Trail. Once on the trail, roughly five miles is spent cruising through a beautiful deciduous forest peppered with a vast number of waterfalls, some over fifty feet tall. Finally arriving upon the Hyalite Lake plateau, a beautiful and vast bowl reveals its magnificence. From Hyalite Lake, a moderate mile and a half exists until reaching the top of Hyalite Peak. For those who feel a 15 mile round-trip is not long enough, the Hyalite Crest Trail climbs over a ridgeline that spans for over fifty miles along the "Devil's Backbone". The trail is easily seen from Hyalite Peak and is a must do for any ridge hiking enthusiast.
