Great hike that gives you multiple options for day hikes. The ONLY drawback if you’re going early in the season: some of the biggest mosquitos I’ve ever seen. They are relentless.

Depending on the time of year and amount of snow left, you get to use a great mixture of skills. Ice axes and crampons are needed for safe travel (even up until mid to late July this year) and class 3 scrambling towards the top. Great views especially of Rainier in the distance!

Great little hike in JTNP. Pretty straightforward, nothing hard. Offers a very unique view of the park from above. Glad I did it!

Skip the crowds at Angels Landing and go for this instead. More scenery and canyons to experience on this hike. Very glad I chose this one.

The most popular permit request is Colchuck, by far. Makes Stuart more of the path less traveled. We camped at Stuart and then made a day hike up Aasgard and it was great. There is a FANTASTIC picture spot that you need to bushwhack a bit for..... As you're coming into the lake on the trail (consider this about 5 o'clock on the lake), if you branch off to the left and skirt the bottom side of the lake to the rocks at about 7 o'clock, you can get a wonderful reflection shot in the mornings. It's one of the best photos I've taken.

This hike is rather diverse on what you will encounter. Starting from the trailhead, its a steady climb to the boulder fields. Heading into the field, there is actually a path in the trees right on the edge of the drop off that we discovered... we rock hopped the entire way in and found it on the way out. Both ways are equally fun. We made our base camp at Lewis lake for the 2 days and is what I'd recommend. The climb from Lewis to Wing had my quads on fire with my day pack, let alone the 35 lbs I left behind! Black peak itself is fun. The scree is a challenge and unorthodox if you haven't dealt with much of it, but you'll pick it up quickly. The write-up above is spot on. Be mindful of how quickly thunder clouds can roll down the valley in late afternoon!

Absolutely a must-do hike. Went for a nice weekend trip in Virginia after day hiking McAfee Knob. We went on a Sunday and Monday and it made a world of difference with the crowds.

Nice little hike, 8 miles round trip. Exactly as described. Expect to pass 5-10 groups on the trail on the weekends with 10 more groups hanging out up top. People are considerate with regards to moving out of people's picture shots.
