Hands down it’s the most common hike everyone feels they HAVE to do. So we did it, it’s a hike I’d take visitors to if they want but it’s nothing to write home about. Good view of Honolulu but we didn’t really walk away feeling like we did a “hike”. Walk up a trail to a to historic spot, snap some pics, and that’s about it. Beginners can do this easy. If you go on a Saturday AM , check out the farmers market across the street you pass ok the way in! That made a good stop for an after trek treat !

It’s a cool view at the top, but it is absolutely necessary to bring patience and to pace yourself. Bring a backpack. Bring 2 bottles of water. Arrive no later to begin your hike than 630. The hot sun will murder you on the way up or the way down if you wait too long. Take the time to sit. Catch your breathe. And allow yourself the patience to watch where your walking on the way down. Some people are epic at this one, some are grandmas but I tell you I’m in between and it was very easy to get over exhausted fast! Listen to your body and maybe bring a hat?

Went when it rained a bit the morning of, VERY slippery, VERY muddy. We were game for but there was a lot of running into trees to catch our fall, using the ropes, Bear crawl techniques, being a bag to carry your water bottles, you will want 2 hands Incase for this. by the end, some of us slipped, some of us sat to walk back down by choice, some of us had clothes that were never going to come clean again .. which was fine but we saw a LOT of people going up in white or nice clothing you like or is new and on most days you can kiss them goodbye. Oh ! If you wonder which way to go.. at all on this trail.. go left !

The only thing I’d like to mention is that some areas ofthis beach have smooth rocks that people and kids can slip on easy, the waves the day we went were powerful enough to move you back a bit and because of it, some of the kids on the shore were pushed into the larger rocks on the shore. Scraped hips, legs, arms, you just have to be careful. If I had small ones I don’t think this one is the perfect fit for a day at the beach for them.
