There are three ways to get to the Hollywood Sign. This route has the best views of the city and the sign on your way up.

The trailhead is at the end of Beachwood Drive and was closed for quite some time due to construction, but reopened January 2015. When driving up Beachwood, you will encounter signs that say "no access to Hollywood sign", but pay them no mind. They've constructed a big fence blocking parking at the trailhead trying to detour hikers to minimize neighborhood traffic, but street parking is allowed Monday-Friday (weekends and holidays require a permit after 8am).

Once you've parked, proceed to gate and enter through the unlocked door to the left. You might encounter a security guard. There are rumors that they have tried to turn hikers away, but I've never had any problems with them.

Once through gate, take the first right following the sign that says "Hikers". From there, it's best to use GPS to follow the trail to the top (you'll encounter a few turns and it's best to stay on the route).

The sign is behind a fence, forcing you to get creative with your photos, but the view is worth it. Be sure to keep looking back for views of downtown, the ocean, and Griffith Observatory on your way up.

The trail is pretty crowded on weekends. The best time for the hike is early. Wake up for a beautiful sunrise hike, you're likely to have the whole place to yourself. Be cautious of early morning coyotes, maybe leave the little dogs and dog snacks at home.

Hollyridge Trail to the Hollywood Sign [Closed] Reviews

I'd say this hike is definitely worth doing once as it gives really awesome views of the iconic Hollywood sign and Los Angeles. With a fairly gradual incline this hike is doable for most people and is a great activity to do if visiting LA

Loved this hike! I get stir crazy in cities and love to explore. The week before I arrived to Los Angeles I put a list together of sights I want to see. Hollywood Sign was #1. Got to the top just in time to catch a beautiful sunset and we only shared the view with a handful of people. Incredible and will do again next time I'm in Southern California

We stayed in a Vacation Rental right down the street from this trail, making it an easy walk. The relatively short, scenic hike is worth every step. If you have extra time and don't mind the walk, the neighborhood is beautiful and you can normally drive around until you find street parking and then just walk a mile or so to the trail. Hike on, hikers. :)
