*Explore the beautiful El Matador beach in Malibu, and its 50-60 foot high secret sea cave!

...There's no better feeling than driving down the PCH highway with your windows down and feeling the fresh ocean breeze blowing in your face. That's just part of the experience and excitement I get when I know I'm making a day trip to Malibu's sea caves!

When driving southbound on the PCH highway, you'll drive 3.8 miles past Leo Carrillo State Beach until you see the sign for El Matador State Beach. Park and follow the trail to the steps that'll lead you to the beach. Parking is $8 for a day pass and only parks 20 vehicles in the lot. If for any reason you can't find parking, you can park along the side of the PCH. As you make your way down the steps, you'll notice the beach is companied with people, photographers, sea arches and massive rocks. When you get to the bottom of the steps, make a right and take it down the beach about 0.3 or 0.4 miles. Depending on if its high tide or not, you may have to go through a small cave to get to the giant cave. If so, be prepared to get wet. Once there, enjoy the views and get some epic photographs. There's a good chance you'll have the cave to yourself, as I did the first couple times I went. Once you're done hanging out and exploring the cave, make your way back the same way you came.

Prior to going, keep an eye out on the tide levels. If you're going earlier in the day (until about 4ish) you should be able to reach the cave no problem, but if you're going later in the evening (anytime after 5pm), the cave may be a bit harder to get to with higher tide levels.

As always, leave no trace, pack out what you pack in and never stop exploring!
Happy Trails!
