Camp at an Environmental Site in Montaña de Oro State Park

San Luis Obispo County, California

Description

Added by Haley Baker

Environmental Site 3 has a gorgeous view of the coastline and is secluded enough to make you feel like you're the only one in the park.

Montaña de Oro has four different environmental campsites within the park. Access to these sites is via reservation only, so plan your adventure ahead of time to ensure you are able to get the spot you want.

I camped at environmental site 3; to access this site find parking at the Badger Trail trailhead. For the campsite, parking is directly in front of the sign - this differentiates your car from people using the trail and ensures you won't get a ticket. To get to the campsite you will walk approximately 100 yards uphill. When you reach the top of the hill you will see a pit toilet on the left, turn right and face the ocean and you will see a picnic table - you've found the campsite! Environmental Site 3 is pretty centrally located. There is access to the Bluff Trail at the parking lot and there are trails behind the campsite as well.

There are no fires allowed in this park, so make sure you bring a camp stove. Additionally, the stars are gorgeous on clear nights so this is a great opportunity to practice nighttime photography.
