Distance: 3.3 milesElevation gain: 2,350 feetOne of the best hikes in the San Gabriel MountainsA challenge, but the views are well worth the effort once you hit 10,064'There is an abundance of views from the start of this hike, and they only get better while you ascend

Just past the Manker Flat Campground on Mt. Baldy rode there will be parking near the trailhead next to the outhouses. Do not park near or block the gate because people live and work beyond this gate. A little bit less than a half mile you will begin to see San Antonio Falls directly in front of you. Continue right and ascend up the winding fire road until you hit the ski resort which is about 3-4 miles from the falls. Once you hit the ski resort there will be many options to choose from, but keep heading north until you come across The Desert View sign. Next, you will want to head left up Devil's Backbone Trail.

From here on out the hike increases its intensity level and you will definitely feel the altitude affect you. The trail is fairly easy to follow since there is only one way to go once you get onto Devil's Backbone. The fun really starts when you come across the backbone and realize why it has the name that it does. WARNING: the last half mile of this hike is killer! It definitely will take a toll on your body if you are not in shape for this hike. It ascends very quickly but you are almost there! Lastly, remember to have fun and take in the accomplishment once you summit Mt. Baldy!
