Overview

With views of lush rolling hills and the sparkling blue water of Americas first National River, Erbie Campground creates an ideal backdrop for group camping trips.

Natural Features:

Erbie is one of the larger campgrounds on the Buffalo National River and is a beautiful area for groups, families and campers with horses. The site is located on the eastern edge of the Ponca Wilderness, near the Parker-Hickman Farmstead.

The Buffalo National River flows free over swiftly running rapids and quiet pools for its 135-mile course. One of the few remaining rivers in the lower 48 states without dams, the Buffalo cuts its way through massive limestone bluffs as it travels eastward through the Arkansas Ozarks into the White River.

Recreation:

Anglers will find smallmouth bass, catfish and sunfish in the river. Peak season for rafting, tubing and kayaking is spring to early summer.

The Buffalo River Trailhead is easily accessed from the camping area. The trail parallels the Buffalo River for a stretch of 37 miles. The trail is open to hikers, backpackers and horseback riders.

Facilities:

The five group campsites cater to groups of 10-25. Vault toilets are provided. Drinking water is not available at Erbie; please bring your own.

Nearby Attractions:

Nearby attractions include the Parker-Hickman Farmstead, the old Erbie Church and the Buffalo River Trail. The Parker-Hickman Farmstead is a historic farm with the oldest standing log structure in the Buffalo National River region, dating back to 1840. Erbie Church is a quaint and modest church built in 1900.
