Blue Hill Farm
Boyce, Virginia
An hour outside of Washington, D.C. lies a vast expanse of rolling blue hills, gently flowing rivers and hidden caverns. This is where you'll find Blue Hill Farm. Situated on 36 acres in the heart of Shenandoah Wine Valley.
Nestled against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Blue Hill Farm was built in 1895 and has been restored to a working farm. The emphasis on being eco-friendly and co-existing with nature is evident everywhere on the property. There's a bee apiary, a chicken coop, and ever-expanding gardens centered around heirloom vegetables and medicinal herbs. Guests are always encouraged to pick from the garden or gather eggs! Sustainable, organic products are used whenever possible, including natural fertilizers like coffee grounds and banana peels. Rain harvesting is practiced along with composting using Subpods.
The surrounding Shenandoah Valley invites both exploration and relaxation. Hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails traverse the Shenandoah River and Shenandoah National Park, including a 101-mile section of the famed Appalachian Trail. Drive the scenic and winding Skyline Drive or head to the Orland E. White Arboretum. History buffs will get a thrill out of visiting one of the many nearby historic sites such as the Cedar Creek Battlefield. The region is also a foodie's paradise, with many award-winning wineries, breweries, and locally-owned restaurants. Be sure to stop into one of the farmer's markets or roadside produce stands for fresh local goodies!
Although there are endless activities nearby, guests don't need to leave Blue Hill Farm to be immersed in nature. The 5-bedroom, 3.5-bath main home features a wraparound porch plus an additional large deck with plenty of seating to take in the sights and sounds. For larger parties, an additional cottage adjacent to the main house can be rented separately. Bring your furry friends too, because Blue Hill Farm is pet-friendly. There's an 8-person hot tub, a large fire pit, and multiple grills to encourage spending time with your loved ones in the great outdoors. Be sure to look up at night, as the rural Virginia countryside is free of light pollution and lends itself to incredible stargazing.
Imagine waking up to the sound of dozens of birds chirping and unending views of lush valleys and the iconic Blue Ridge Mountains. You'll hardly believe that you're just outside the nation's capital — this countryside feels like another world!
